Java library for exporting OpenTelemetry traces, metrics, and logs to Azure Monitor and Application Insights. Note: this package is deprecated. The replacement is azure-monitor-opentelemetry-autoconfigure.
Rather than manually building HTTP exporters or configuring Azure Monitor ingestion, this integrates directly with the OpenTelemetry SDK so you get traces and metrics flowing to Application Insights with a connection string and a few lines of setup.
When to use it
- Sending distributed trace data from a Java microservice to Application Insights
- Adding span attributes like order ID and customer tier to traces for debugging
- Recording exceptions on spans so they appear in Azure Monitor
- Tracking HTTP request counts and latency as metrics in Application Insights
- Migrating from the deprecated exporter to the autoconfigure package
