Setup & Installation
What This Skill Does
wp-playground runs disposable WordPress instances in the browser or locally via CLI, using WebAssembly and SQLite. It supports auto-mounting plugins and themes, switching WP and PHP versions, running Blueprints, building shareable snapshots, and debugging with Xdebug.
Instead of spinning up Docker or a full wp-env stack, you get an isolated WordPress running in seconds with a single npx command and no database to configure.
When to use it
- Testing a plugin against WordPress 6.9 and PHP 8.1 without touching a staging site
- Running a Blueprint JSON file locally to validate a scripted site setup
- Building a zipped site snapshot to attach to a bug report
- Debugging a theme with Xdebug by auto-mounting the local repo into an isolated instance
- Reproducing a version-specific compatibility issue by pinning WP and PHP flags
