What This Skill Does
A universal web search skill that gives coding agents structured, machine-readable search data through SerpApi's 130+ engines — Google web, news, images, shopping, Scholar, Maps, YouTube, Finance, Flights, Hotels, Jobs, and alternative engines like Bing and DuckDuckGo. The skill teaches the agent to pick the right engine by intent, extract the right response keys, and recover from auth and quota errors, with MCP, CLI, SDK, and curl invocation paths.
Instead of parsing approximate, unstructured web-search output, the agent gets deterministic JSON with known result keys per engine — and the skill encodes the gotchas (non-standard params, nested fields, error recovery) that normally burn trial-and-error calls.
When to use it
- Getting exact citation counts from Google Scholar instead of approximate web results
- Pulling live flight prices, hotel rates, and shopping prices as structured JSON
- Looking up local business details — phone, rating, reviews — via Google Maps
- Fanning out finance, news, and web queries in parallel for research tasks
- Cross-checking facts across Google and Bing before citing them
