Azure Monitor Query SDK for Python wraps the LogsQueryClient and MetricsQueryClient APIs for querying Log Analytics workspaces using Kusto queries and pulling Azure Monitor metrics. It supports batch queries, async clients, and dimension filtering.
Writing raw Azure Monitor REST calls requires manual token handling, pagination, and result parsing — this SDK abstracts all of that into typed Python clients with built-in partial-result and error handling.
When to use it
- Running Kusto queries against Log Analytics to find slow API requests over a time window
- Pulling CPU and network metrics from an Azure VM at 5-minute granularity
- Batch querying AppRequests and AppExceptions in a single round trip
- Converting Log Analytics query results into a pandas DataFrame for analysis
- Filtering Azure Blob Storage request metrics by API name dimension
