Python library for authenticating to Azure services using Microsoft Entra ID. Provides DefaultAzureCredential, managed identity, service principals, and direct token acquisition. Works across local dev and Azure-hosted environments without code changes.
DefaultAzureCredential handles the local-dev-to-production transition automatically, so you don't maintain separate auth logic for each environment.
When to use it
- Authenticating Azure Blob Storage clients in Python with zero credential management
- Switching from local Azure CLI login to managed identity in production without changing code
