What This Skill Does
@expo/ui/jetpack-compose lets you use native Android Jetpack Compose components and Material Design 3 modifiers directly in a React Native/Expo app. It maps the Compose API to JSX so you can render native Android UI trees without writing Kotlin.
Instead of bridging Kotlin views manually or settling for cross-platform approximations, you get direct access to the full Jetpack Compose component tree and modifier system from JSX.
When to use it
- Rendering a scrollable list with LazyColumn instead of FlatList for native Android performance
- Adding Material Design 3 buttons, text fields, and chips to an Expo Android screen
- Applying Compose modifiers like padding and fillMaxWidth to layout components from JavaScript
- Displaying Android XML vector drawable icons from Material Symbols in a React Native view
- Building a native Android form with Material 3 theming that matches platform conventions
